Sustainable Management of Aphid Infestation Using Entomopathogenic Fungi in Oilseed Crops

Lukas Andreas Müller, Anna Katharina Fischer (Germany)

Abstract

Aphid infestation poses a severe threat to global oilseed production, often resulting in yield losses exceeding 50%. While chemical insecticides remain the primary control strategy, their negative environmental and health impacts have necessitated the exploration of sustainable alternatives. Entomopathogenic fungi (EPF), such as Beauveria bassiana, Metarhizium anisopliae, and Lecanicillium lecanii, represent a potent biocontrol mechanism. This paper explores the mechanism of action, application efficacy, and integration of EPF into Integrated Pest Management (IPM) systems for oilseed crops.
